A RAIN system is a standards-based, wireless system where the tags and readers both implement the ISO/IEC 18000-63 air-interface protocol (also known as GS1 UHF Gen 2) and the tags are encoded utilizing controlled numbering practices either following applicable ISO standards or the GS1 EPC TDS.
