RAIN Sensor Working Group

The RAIN Sensor Working Group was created to accelerate the market adoption of sensor-enabled RAIN RFID and establish it as a scalable technology for high-value industrial applications.

Battery-free sensor tags are already delivering reliable data in pioneering deployments across Pharma, Healthcare, Automotive, Smart Manufacturing, Energy, and Food—enabling measurements that traditional wireless or battery-powered solutions cannot provide.

The Working Group brings together chipmakers, solution providers, and end users to build a unified, interoperable framework for RAIN sensing and to drive its evolution from early deployments to broad, industry-wide adoption.

Meeting cadence:
Every two weeks, Thursdays 4:30-4:30 pm (CET)

RAIN Sensor Working Group Leaders:

Sara Amendola, Radio6ense

Ongoing Projects:

White Paper: RAIN Sensors – From Vision to Adoption.
A community-driven document that positions RAIN sensing as the low-power backbone of the IoT. This project maps current RAIN sensors technologies and architectures (Landscape), identifies adoption barriers (Gaps), and outlines a roadmap for short- and long-term growth (Opportunities).

Participants in RAIN Sensor Working Group consist of:

The full spectrum of the RAIN ecosystem, including RFID Chipmakers and Sensor IC Providers, Reader Manufacturers, System Integrators, and End-Users in strategic sectors such as Pharma, Healthcare, Automotive, Smart Manufacturing, Energy, and Food.

Level of Dedication:

Participation varies based on the level of commitment individuals choose. You can engage by joining discussions, reviewing guidelines, or actively contributing content. Higher commitment roles, such as serving as an editor for guides or papers, typically require 1-2 hours per week until the project is completed.
