RFID costs are coming down, reliability is increasing and accuracy is improving. RFID is becoming less an “exotic” technology and more a familiar, accepted tool

Mid-sized businesses tend to be more organizationally agile, and so, early adopters of new technology, including RFID. Enterprise-level companies have noted the successful RFID deployments at their mid-sized trading partners, and have become more comfortable in embarking on RFID initiatives themselves — the technology will continue to trend upward at mid-sized businesses, as well as at large, global ones. And as the supply chain becomes increasingly driven by RFID, and interoperability becomes an expectation instead of a desired state, anticipate an increase in RFID deployments even at small companies.

The current price point of passive tags makes them attractive — many companies who may have been previously resistant to RFID implementation because of cost are making the leap.
