RAIN in Smartphones

The RAIN in Smartphones workgroups are focused on driving RAIN reader integration into smartphones. This integration will enable enterprises and people to engage with everyday items, in the supply chain, in stores, and in everyday life, and open the door to new use cases and revenue streams, from consumer engagement to seamless omnichannel shopping, to end-of-life recycling.

RAIN-enabled Smartphones Use Cases Workgroup

Focus: this workgroup focuses on business cases and use cases across a number of verticals as well as monetization scenarios.

Deliverables: marketing collateral and demonstrators for live events (e.g. RAIN in Action).

Participants: business and strategy leaders in retail, healthcare, and other markets, RAIN marketing and sales leaders.

RAIN-enabled Smartphones Integration Workgroup

Focus: this workgroup focuses on the implementation of RAIN-enabled smartphones and the functionalities required to achieve the user experience desired.

Deliverables: Integration Requirements Document, the baseline for future RAIN-enabled smartphones standards and conformance tests.

Participants: engineering managers and product owners, product architects, system engineers, RF and hardware engineers.

SG15 RAIN-enabled OS Integration Workgroup

Focus: This workgroup defines the device user experience (UX) and interface (UI) for native RAIN RFID reading on smartphones, and specifies a standard OS API for RAIN-enabled reader functionality to enable app portability independent of underlying hardware. This includes an open-source reference application and an interoperable SDK, with attention to developer experience (DevEx) in working with the SDK.

Deliverables: SW stack documentation, API specification, an open-source Android reference application demonstrating the API usage, an interoperable SDK, and an RCI Simulator Android App connected to the SDK.

Participants: SW and OS engineering managers and product owners, SW product architects, SW engineers, system engineers, UX/UI designers, OEM/device manufacturer representatives.
